I am a sophomore from Mobile, Alabama, studying Economics and Health Policy. On campus, I am Vice Chair of Finance of the Asian Pacific Student Coalition, Chief of Operations of a community health service club called MEDLIFE, and Finance Vice President of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
Applying to ISP is undoubtedly one of the best decisions I have made in college. ISP encouraged me to explore a broad range of issues through diverse perspectives. One year later, I can see the difference in my writing, critical thinking, and analysis skills, which I attribute to Friday small-group seminars, where I learned how to convey my thoughts in a clear and structured manner and received extensive, thoughtful feedback on each of my essays. Other favorite BFS classes include Philosophy with Dr. Detlefsen and Law and Social Values with Dr. Gordon, fields of study that I had never been exposed to before but have encouraged me to consider public policy and law school as part of my career path.
ISP also allowed me to engage with a community of intelligent, caring individuals interacting in innovative ways both inside and outside of the classroom. Living in Riepe, I met people who I now consider some of my closest friends at Penn over fierce intellectual debates, fun movie hangouts, late-night study sessions, Sunday brunches, and more. Additionally, through treks to DC and New York and dinner discussion events, I have been able to connect with BFS alumni, who have inspired me with how they have utilized their interdisciplinary interests to make tangible positive impacts on the world. ISP has challenged me to question everything I had previously held as true and encouraged to learn simply because it is fun to do so.
I cannot emphasize enough how much I appreciate my experience in ISP and how it has impacted my personal and academic growth. If you have any questions or would like to learn more, please feel free to reach out to me at my email address below!
