Meg Kassabaum is an anthropological archaeologist who focuses on pre-contact Native American populations in the Eastern United States. Her recent research has focused on moundbuilding groups in the Mississippi River Valley (for example, https://www.penn.museum/research/project.php?pid=46). She is the author the book, A History of Platform Mound Ceremonialism: Finding Meaning in Elevated Ground (2021), and many articles using plant, animal, and ceramic data to examine questions of Native American foodways, feasting, monumentality, communal ritual, and social organization. She also works on issues of public archaeology and has recently begun a community archaeology project in West Philadelphia.
