Kathy Desmond, President of the People's Emergency Center [Link], was kind enough to visit our Integration Thursday class and discuss with students topics (e.g., politics, housing, childcare, etc.) relevant to this semester's theme of Poverty. It was great to get a local perspective from someone involved with addressing the challenges of poverty for the past 30 years. Students particularly appreciated the local perspective of someone working very close to campus in the West Powelton and surrounding neighborhoods.
